For women boxers, 2011 is the year to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Only boxers who qualify in an Olympic weight category may earn a right to participate in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Four events may qualify a woman to attend the U.S. Olympic Team Trials:
- Place in the top four of the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships
- Win the 2011 Golden Gloves Championships
- Place in the top two of the 2011 National Police Athletic League Championships
- Participate in the 2011 Pan American Games
Eight boxers in each of the three Olympic weight categories will participate in the Trials. Scheduled for February 2012, that tournament is a double-elimination format. The winner of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials may represent the United States at the 2012 World Championships, for a chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
