Women One Year Away from Olympic Trials

For women boxers, 2011 is the year to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.  Only boxers who qualify in an Olympic weight category may earn a right to participate in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Four events may qualify a woman to attend the U.S. Olympic Team Trials:

  1. Place in the top four of the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships
  2. Win the 2011 Golden Gloves Championships
  3. Place in the top two of the 2011 National Police Athletic League Championships
  4. Participate in the 2011 Pan American Games

Eight boxers in each of the three Olympic weight categories will participate in the Trials.  Scheduled for February 2012, that tournament is a double-elimination format.  The winner of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials may represent the United States at the 2012 World Championships, for a chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
