There has been plenty of action during the first two rounds of the 83rd annual Cleveland Golden Gloves tournament, and more of the same should be expected as the semi-finals will be tonight from the Brook Park Recreation Center (17400 Holland Rd). There will be 12 bouts with the first bell set to ring at 7:00 PM.
The 152 pound Open division will be a focal point of the evening.
Royce McCormick, who boxes out of the Good Shepherd Boxing Club in Akron, will go up against Cleveland’s Darren Wilder, from the Thurgood Marshal Police Athletic League.
McCormick won a three round decision over Julius Thomas during the preliminary round last Friday.
In the other 152 pound Open division matchup Levi Patterson, from Empire Boxing Club in Cleveland, will take on Lucian Clinkscale, from the Downtown Boxing Club in Youngstown.
Patterson, like McCormick, fought during the preliminary round last Friday and won a three round decision over Jonathan Gregory.
Both Darren Wilder and Lucian Clinkscale had first round byes and will be seeing their first competition of the tournament.
The third and final Open division bout will also be the final bout of the evening. It will take place in the 178 pound division and will feature Jimmy Bland, from the Inner City Boxing Club in Cleveland, taking on Bryan
Pegues, from the United City Boxing Club.
Pegues was the 2010 Cleveland Golden Gloves champion in the 178 pound Novice division.
